A goat producer, Dave and Denise Smith from Choiceland, Saskatchewan,
Canada have experienced a devastating loss of 900+ goats on their farm
in 2005. There have been vets out, autopsies sent in, feed analysis
done, blood tests done, and water samples sent in. Over the last few
months, these producers have been trying to save their livestock and
maintain their sanity.
After many, many autopsy results coming back as "Cause of Death
Inconclusive", the disaster has been diagnosed as a severe copper
deficiency along with their feedstuffs having basically NO protein.
Since the results, and there are still more to come in, they have
purchased feed and are working now with copper boluses.
It seems that right now, the deaths have stopped.
The reason for this auction is to hopefully raise some funds so that
we can help Dave and Denise get back on their feet. The money raised
will go towards the bills they have incurred so that they can remain
on the farm and continue farming.
